Environmental and durability issues

CIS Street Furniture operates an environmental policy which aims to fall in line with today's growing concerns about recyclable and biodegradable materials.

There is a growing demand for recyclable materials. Many companies from differing manufacturing backgrounds have searched for a viable argument as to how their products can be classified as environmentally friendly, commonly referred to as 'Green'.

As a company CIS Street Furniture is able to supply factual information on the recyclability of the raw materials used in it's manufacturing processes. This can be made available on request.

The timbers used are all from sustainable sources, mainly managed forestation.

It may be noted that Iron is the ultimate recyclable material. Iron can be recycled ad infinitum, unlike many materials. Some polymers can only be recycled a limited number of times, some not at all. A percentage of virgin material may even need to be added to them in the manufacturing process. Also, iron does not give off any toxic fumes, unlike many plastics which decompose on recycling to give off some very harmful by-products which can include cyanide and sulphur dioxide.

Indeed, why buy imitation cast iron when you can have the real thing? Maintenance? Durability? Longevity? If you are thinking 'That's why I buy plastic!' did you know that:
Even with paint treatment cast iron will last at least 100 years outdoors.
Cast iron is infinitely recyclable
Cast iron cannot be set on fire
Cast iron cannot be carved or cut
Cast iron can be treated with zinc (giving extremely high levels of corrosion protection)
